Verizon confirmed to USA TODAY that it will provide a $20 credit to customers affected by a seven-hour outage.

About 12:30 p.m., the Verizon wireless network went down. ET on Wednesday, Jan. 14 and impacted more than 1.5 million customers, according to data service outage resource Downdetector.

According to Downdetector, the occurrence was widespread throughout the United States, with the highest concentrations reported in New York City, Atlanta, Charlotte, North Carolina, Houston, and Brooklyn, New York.

According to a statement obtained by USA TODAY, Verizon customers can access the $20 account credit through the myVerizon mobile app. Text messages will be sent to customers when the credit is ready. According to the company, the credit ought to cover multiple days of service on average.

The outage has been resolved, Verizon stated in a statement provided to USA TODAY and posted to X at 10:20 p.m.
